The WAKR is affiliated with and operates alongside the Australian Kendo Renmei (AKR).

The AKR is recognised by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) as the National Sporting Organisation to develop Kendo, Iaido and Jodo in Australia.

Our polices operate within the framework set by the AKR and Sports Integrity Australia in addition to working towards the interests of the Western Australian community and WAKR members.

Members Code of Conduct

- Behavioural Standards

All members of the WAKR must agree to and are bound by the AKR Code of Conduct.

The Code of Conduct aims to ensure that everyone involved in Kendo, Iaido and Jodo in Australia are aware of the standards of behaviour expected of them. It aims to deliver best practice by ensuring those standards are clear and guided by sound ethics.

By consistently applying these standards and providing guidelines for dealing with any behaviour that is alleged to breach the Code of Conduct, the AKR aims to enhance public trust and confidence in their relevant sports and associated organisations across Australia specifically through the actions of its members.

As per the AKR Code of Conduct, behaviours prohibited to our members include:

  • acting outside the rules of the AKR and spirit of Kendo, Iaido and Jodo;

  • acting outside the law;

  • unethical, dishonest, inconsiderate, and unfair dealings with other people;

  • unprofessional behaviours;

  • being disrespectful towards an official on or off the field of play;

  • unreasonable disruption of AKR representatives performing their duties;

  • unsafe actions and behaviours that endanger the health, safety and wellbeing of others;

  • abuse of power or position, manipulation of information and processes for personal gain;

  • misuse of private or confidential information;

  • inappropriate intimate relationship with a person that he or she supervises, or has influence, authority, or power over;

Sports Integrity

- Enforcing a safe, fair and healthy sporting environment

The WAKR aligns itself with the AKR Conduct Management Policies and The National Sports Integrity Framework.

The National Sports Integrity Framework covers matters such as:

  • child safety,

  • member protection (abuse, bullying, harassment, sexual misconduct, discrimination, victimisation and vilification),

Play by the Rules provides information, resources, tools and free online training to administrators, coaches, officials, players, parents and spectators to assist them in preventing and dealing with discrimination, harassment, child safety, inclusion and integrity issues in sport.

All senior members involved in teaching or instructing are required to complete set courses by Sports Integrity Australia and Play by the Rules. These courses are facilitated by the AKR Learning Centre

Compulsory courses include:
