Budokan Academy was started in 1982 by Sensei Ramon Lawrence OAM, originally teaching Jishukan Ryu Jujitsu. In 1985 we became the founding dojo of the West Australian Kendo Renmei teaching Kendo. Zen Ken Ren Iaido was added in 1988 and Zen Ken Ren Jodo was added in 1996.

​In 2003, we commenced teaching Tamiya Ryu Iaijutsu - which is only taught to Iaido students who are Sandan (3rd Dan) and above.
Since 2020, the dojo only teaches Zen Ken Ren Iaido & Jodo and Tamiya Ryu Iaijutsu. ​​
​
We welcome students of all ages and abilities for training in Iaido and Jodo, offering classes in Southern River and Osborne Park. ​
